~ Playing Catch Up ~
July 22nd, 2010 by Holly McMillen
Good morning, friends!
Oh, the crazy, hazy days of summer! One minute I’m ahead of the game, the next I’m behind. Hate to say this, but I’m actually looking forward to school starting! I’m not certain how that’s going to make my life simpler, but let’s just pretend.
Over the last few days I have posted several cards for the Dare to Get Dirty challenges on Splitcoaststampers. I’ve neglected to write posts about them, though…. bad me! So now, let’s recap:
First up is a card I did for Denise’s (peanutbee) challenge. I needed a girly image and was a little shocked to find that I’m sorely lacking in young girl images. I have some older girls and a granny, but little girls.. not so much. I was fortunate to find this Sugar Nellie image that a friend sent me about a year ago.
I wanted her shirt to match this amazing gingham ribbon, but could not put my fingers on the black/white gingham paper that I’m positive exists somewhere in my studio. So, I simply drew lines in a grid pattern on her shirt in pencil. Then I colored the horizontal lines in black and the vertical lines in gray. I think it came out pretty sweet!
Here are my deets:
Stamps: There She Goes’ Beautiful Spring (Sentiment); Sugar Nellie’s Daisy
Colors: Basic Black, Green Galore, Real Red, GP White
Ink: Versafine Black Onyx, copics
Accessories: 1 1/2″ black gingham, 1/2 pearls, swiss dots embossing folder, dimensionals

Next up is a card that I did for several challenges. Combining the challenges can be…. well, challenging. This one, however fell together as I knew the colors I needed, the layout, and some details.
The sentiment I used here comes from the Wordsworth Emerson Collection. As much as I love the sentiment, it makes me a little crazy. I think it SHOULD read “The ornamentS of a house ARE the friends who frequent it”.
Here are my deets:
Stamps: Wordsworth Emerson Collection from Stamp Simply Ribbon Store
Colors: Always Artichoke, Summer Sun, Real Red, GP White, Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety Collection dp
Ink: Versafine Black Onyx, So Saffron
Accessories: 2″ wide striped ribbon, Candy dots, sewing machine, sponge, dimensionals

Ok, last for today is my sample for AmberDawn’s challenge. I just noticed that my last three cards are square. I better pull myself out of that rut, soon!
I’m completely enamored with the Wordsworth Poetry of the Earth set. The sentiments are so spiritual without being preachy.
Here are my deets on this one:
Stamps: Wordsworth Poetry of the Earth
Colors: Chcolate chip, Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose and Webster’s Pages Triple Pack dps
Ink: Regal Rose
Accessories: 1″ pink Satin, 1/2 pearls, circle cutter, flower punch, dimensionals

And finally, I’d like to share a little bit of exciting news! My brother, Marty, has started his own blog. Marty has been dabbling in photography for gosh, it must be over 30 years now. He took some of my wedding photos! Anyway, he is doing a blog that is photog related and will give pointers for taking awesome pics. Now I KNOW crafters and bloggers are always looking to improve their photography, so go check him out and watch him grow! MR Photography Simplified.
Thanks for stopping by today! Ya’ll come back soon, ya hear? 🙂
Peace!!
Holly
Fabulous set of cards. With the kids home for the summer and a few weekly commitments I can’t get to any of these this year 🙁 Enjoy doing some for me 😀
Awesome work Holly, as always!! Love them!!
