~ Two Cards, One Sketch ~
September 10th, 2010 by Holly McMillen
Hello!
I had a revelation this morning. I have a much more enjoyable time stamping and creating when I have a specific purpose in mind. Stamping just to stamp doesn’t hold my attention like it use to. Don’t get me wrong, I will probably be stamping on my death bed. It just means that I am growing in a new direction.
Today I did something I rarely do. I made two cards with the exact same layout. I even used similar embellishments. I am pleased with how different they look, too!
The first one I made in honor of today’s Stand up To Cancer event. When Marci and I head to Denver next month, it will be the anniversary (8 years) of her fight with cancer and her one year anniversary of being on this latest round of chemo. We are just so blessed that she is still with us. This will go to her oncologist.
I used today’s Free 4 All sketch challenge as my jumping point for this and the next card. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I love acrylic sentiments as you can manipulate them to any shape (curved in this case).
Here are my deets:
Stamps: There She Goes’ Winning the Race
Colors: Regal Rose, Basic Black, GP White, dp
Ink: Regal Rose, Versafine Black Onyx, copics
Accessories: Kaisercraft 1/2 pearls (snow white), 1/2″ grosgrain ribbon (pink), large scalloped circle nestie, circle nestie, circle punches, embossing strip, scor tape, dimensionals.

I’m nearly in shock that it is already the end of summer, but the fact that Christmas is a mere 3 1/2 months away just boggles my mind. I am way behind on the cards and gifts I need to make. So for my second stab at this sketch, I made a Christmas card with the new Our Craft Lounge sets.
I have in my possession three new ornament sets from three different companies. I am thinking all my family and friends will be seeing a lot of those type cards this year! Last year it was snowflakes. This year…ornaments!
Here are my deets:
Stamps: Our Craft Lounge’ Trim the Tree and Merry Wishes
Colors: Riding Hood Red, GP White, Basic Grey Oliver
Ink: Buckaroo Blue, Riding Hood Red, Versafine Black Onyx, copics
Accessories: 1″ satin edged grosgrain (red), kaisercraft 1/2 pearls, circle nesties, circle punch, scor tape, dimensionals

Thanks for stopping by! Now I am off to make a birthday card for my “adopted” grandson (my son’s girlfriend’s boy). Wish me luck!!
Hugs!
Holly
Fantastic cards!! I just love how they are the ‘same, but different’. Thanks for sharing.
I love both cards Holly!! I especially love the milestone the first one represents, the soft colors and embossing you added. And the way you hung the ornament on the second is clever and fun!! Awesome!
Two fabulous cards, Holly!! Love how you used the sketch. The embossing along the top of the first one is a lovely touch. Had no clue Marci had been fighting cancer for 8 years. Please give her a big hug for me!
Great Christmas card. Love the mix of DPs and love your ornament theme for this year’s cards.
