~ Patchwork Pretties ~
June 12th, 2011 by Holly McMillen
Hi Friends!
I have been a busy bee this weekend. Lots of stamping! Unfortunately, I can’t share all of it with you just yet :). I think that’s the hardest part of working ahead. I always want to share right away, but the ability is not always there.
I was going through my scrap drawers yesterday and was kind of laughing at myself because I keep some of the smallest pieces of scrap designer paper. I had some in there that were no bigger than 1″ x 3″.
It reminded me of stories my granny used to tell of how she would use my grandfather’s old work shirts to make patchwork quilts for her family. We’ve had some amazing quilters in our family, but the old patchwork quilts were so special because they were born of necessity.
So, this week’s Technique Lover’s Challenge is to make a patchwork background. Here’s the one I created:
I wanted to zigzag stitch it together, but my little Janome sewing machine will not do a zigzag stitch. So I created “binding” between the patches.
Here’s my finished card:
Here are my deets:
Stamps: There She Goes’ Cattitude
Colors: Melon Mambo, Summer Sun, GP White, various dp scraps
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics
Accessories: striped grosgrain ribbon, rhinestones, eyelet border punch, swiss dots embossing folder, corner rounder, oval punch, sticky tape, dimensionals

Thanks for stopping by! If you’d like to try the patchwork technique, please stop over to the challenges forums on SCS and join our fun!
Hugs!
Hi Holly! I don’t get by to visit often, but I try to check on you every once in a while…This card is amazing! Oh the colors you used…what a smile you will put on someone’s face when they receive this one! Love the story about your grandmother’s quilts! Take care my friend!
This is such a pretty and vibrant card. I love the patchwork too.
I just love homemade quilts….!!
I’m not quite sure if you’re talking about (my Aunt) Alla Mae, but your maternal grandmother’s mother (Ida Mae) who was my grandmother gave me a very pretty and colorful quilt over 35 years ago. It was quite modern for her compared to her younger days as this one was partially sewn with a sewing machine. I use it, adore it and cherish it. However, it does need some repairs though so that is something that I need to look in to.
What a great challenge this week, gf…I love your patchwork creation!!!! The colors and papers are sooo pretty and I love that sweet little kitty!!!! I know your secret and I’m thrilled…Whoohoo!!!!!!!
I actually like the binding better, I think! CUTE CUTE!! So glad you showed the patchwork base too~!
Super duper cute!!
This post is truly inspirational.
