Happy Saturday, Friends!

Welcome! Today we are working with recycling the tin can — whether you call it altering, decorating, recycling, repurposing or upscaling — it’s all about reusing some of those very versatile tin cans that are all around us.  Remember the pencil cups we made from tin cans in grade school?  Same idea — just a little more grown up!

If you’ve arrived here from Barb Schram’s blog, then you’re in the right spot.  If not, I suggest you start back on Sharon Johnson’s blog so you can find out how to get into the drawing for the gorgeous pin cushion and ribbon sampler shown in the picture above (the spool of ribbon underneath the pin cushion is not part of the candy).

I started off with a cat food can….

A few die cuts,  some gorgeous designer paper and  my favorite ribbons and voila!

I sunk a fun snowman into the lid and covered it with acetate.

I created some fun little gift tags to fill the tin, using simply nestabilities and a snowflake punch

Put it all together and it makes a nice little gift!  After the tags are used, you can fill it with candy 🙂

Here are my details:

Stamps: JustRite’s Groovy Snowmen

Papers: GP White, Cherry Cobbler, Lilly Bee Designs Jingle 6 x 6 pad, acetate

Ink: Memento Tuxedo black, copics

Accessories: 5/8″ crocheted lace (ivory), 5/8″ Satin Pleats (burgandy), red , silver and champagne rhinestones, circle nestabilities, lace circle nesties, scalloped circle nesties, Fancy Tags Two, stickles, sticky tape, oval punches, dimensionals, jute

Great idea! But how did you manage to remove the smell from the can? I’ve tried to save containers from other smelly foods and I just can’t get rid of it.

What a great idea! And, I love the tags, too! This looks like it was so much fun putting together, and figuring it out as you went!

I love all of the different ribbons and trim! And, the fact that you lined the inside of the can…the cover is fabulous.

One question, how did you get the smell of cat food out of there? LOL

What a great idea. It’s a good thing my husband likes tuna (I’m vegetarian) or I’d have to adopt a kitten to get some cat food! I don’t think my 2 German Shepherds would like that too much!

  25. on 19 Nov 2011 at 11:10Glenda J

What a cute project and I love the tags you made to go inside. thanks for sharing and for the chance to win! Happy Thanksgiving!

  26. on 19 Nov 2011 at 11:27Caryn S.

I bet this would work for an empty tuna can just the same, and goodness knows I have enough of those in my house! I assume that you use one of the uncrimping or edge-cutting type of can openers rather than one of the old-fashioned ones that cut around the inside of the lid? That would make a difference! NO ONE would guess that this once held cat food!

  27. on 19 Nov 2011 at 12:56Rosemary D

absolutely beautiful!!! love all the little tags!
